This is also my experience. But, that's because Benefiber is a different thing than Metamucil. On a very high level they're both "fiber", but Benefiber is 100% a type of soluble fiber, whereas Metamucil is made of stuff that also has insoluble fiber.

For some folks / some situations, either will do, but the two types of fiber(*) can have dramatically different effects in the GI tract - if what one needs is insoluble fiber for bulking/softening, then Benefiber isn't particularly useful. (This is usually the case for me.)

(*) = Which is a vast oversimplification. I find notable differences in GI behavior even between different types of soluble fibers, for instance, or different sources of insoluble fiber.

I've started discovering the joys of Metamucil -- yay for feeling just that little bit older

FWIW, I've been dealing with fiber supplements since my mid 20s, and had to buy one of my kids an OTC laxative a couple months ago - they're totally for young 'uns, too! Just, nobody much *talks* about it.
