It's a fair criticism. I will say that it's one of the ways in which Joss trumps JMS -- he's learned how to be effective much more quickly. (Firefly starts firing on all cylinders much faster than anything JMS has written.) JMS is stronger at the epic format, but has the corresponding weakness that his stuff consistently builds very slowly...
