A united US is more than a match for Russia. A divided one is not.

Best for Russia is to keep the US invading hopeless causes (Syria without any effort at nation-building, North Korea) and away from protecting actual sovereign nations (Ukraine) while they slowly rebuild the USSR-plus-plus (Latvia, etc.; Armenia and Azerbaijan if they want to; on to the edge of Turkey).

There's a reason Norway just made a BIG spend on weapons and reintroduced the draft.
