Review: Hungry Coyote

Just a quickie note while I think of it: lunch today was at the Hungry Coyote, the new Guatamalan restaurant in Waltham. We agreed that the differences between Guatamalan and Mexican were too subtle for our American tastes, but it was quite good. Fast service, a tasty and complex burrito for four bucks, and the salsa verde complements it well. Satisfies my Native Element criterion for good ethnic restaurants (a substantial fraction of the customers should be of the appropriate ethnos, which usually means they're doing it right). Disconcertingly empty for a Friday lunchtime, so I encourage folks to go there, so they can stay in business...

Yeah, it's Mexican City Mexican. And it's good.

I found the vegetarian offerings to be decent, but not super. And I suspect they were lying when they said the refried beans were vegetarian, because most Mexican places don't make them vegetarian. Although they might have been telling the truth, because I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and try them, and I didn't get a stomachache.
