I'll admit I've been pestering Constance as she initially took me up on an offer to update the EKU site once she had the data. That was two weeks ago. Just got an email saying she's finishing up a schedule and "it will be up when its done." So I don't know if that means me, her or someone else.
My dear bride had a great time today - her first event. So we're looking forward to getting more involved in the Barony. I just need to find ways to properly serve and learn.
Unfortunately, Constance has little power over the EKU site -- the Chancellor of the University (who isn't local) runs that, and she's new to the job. Hence, the slow responsiveness of things.
Glad to hear that y'all had fun today! For learning, don't be afraid to ask questions. (One of the main things I *do* in the SCA is answer questions: cvirtue and I are 2/3 of the SCA Questions Desk, the online question-answering service.) The SCA is huge and complex, and it takes years to really learn all the major nooks and crannies, but it's fun to explore and fun to explain.
As for ways to serve -- much of it is simply diving in. Help is *always* needed, at all sorts of levels. When you're just starting out, my best advice is to keep an ear to the ground for people who are looking for help explicitly, especially things like helping run events. (Going to Great Council is often a good way to find out where assistance is needed.) Assist with various areas to start with for a few events, to get an idea of how they work. After that, don't be afraid to take some real jobs on: most jobs don't require any deep expertise, just an organized mind and a willingness to take a problem area seriously...
