Well, they're not actually 3" -- they're 2.25", which is the commonest button size.

And Nancy does (as of relatively recently) carry a modest number of *teeny* little 1" buttons, capable of holding maybe three words. (Late last week, my button was "Hwaet ye phoque?".) I'm actually kind of surprised that the website doesn't make that clearer...
