they've got probably the easiest schedule in the NFL

Yeah, I was rather surprised by that. After last year's run, I expected us to have a killer schedule -- I hadn't realized it was quite that randomized.

Besides, the last time the Patriots star QB got injured for the rest of the regular season, it turned out the sixth round pick backup was actually pretty decent.

True, although to be fair it's a rather different situation. By that point, the bloom was seriously off the rose with Drew -- his arm was still great, but his weaknesses had become painfully obvious over the years. (In particular, the fact that the man couldn't run if a horde of ravaging barbarians were chasing him with axes). And Brady was largely an unknown, whereas Cassel has years of mediocre reputation to overcome.

Still, Cassel played well, and that's bound to be good for everyone's morale. Assuming the team hangs together and plays well *as* a team, I'll give them reasonable odds.

(Of course, if Cassel does *really* well, then things are going to be complicated at the beginning of next season when Tom is ready again. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.)
