I'm with you on the salad bar. One of the bad things about our office move a few years ago (which was overall positive) was the loss of the salad bar right across the street.
I tend to keep some non-perishable food at my desk (e.g. oatmeal and raisins) and bring in fruit fairly often. Many days I bring yogurt or salad, but not always. This is all low-effort lunch-packing, which I find much easier than bringing in sandwiches (have to be made that morning) or hot foods.
