Okay -- just got my final panel list for Arisia, and it's better than the first draft. Five panels, covering my range of interests reasonably well (two LARP, two comics, one online). I am amused at the degree to which I'm on the usual panels with the usual people -- I could almost have predicted who I'd wind up on which panels with, since we often wind up together year after year.

All look interesting, but the winner is probably going to be the "LJ and the Nature of Community" panel: it's a *great* topic and a fine list of people to hash through the topic with. Pity that I have another panel right afterwards, because I'd bet that this is one that we could easily continue for hours...

Yeah, back when I was able to make the trip to Arisia, I found myself on the same panels with the same people quite a few times. Unfortunately, this included one total jackass who made a point of belittling me for doing theatre-style LARPs *EVERY* *SINGLE* *TIME*.

Can't justify the expense of heading up to Boston twice in that short a time frame this year, but maybe in the next couple . . .

Fortunately, I haven't had problems with that -- the LARP panels I've been on have usually been pretty civilized between the TS and LC folks. (Indeed, one of those "always" people for me is Mike Ventrella: he and I seem to be on the "Intro to LARP" panel together once every few years, and have generally maintained a reasonable respect for each others' styles, despite coming from nearly the opposite ends of the spectrum...)

Yes, I'm looking forward to that one. I think if we look at the panelists combined, we could claim to have brought new people into the hobby numbering into the thousands.

Sunday at 2pm. Somehow I wound up with 3 of my 5 panels on Sunday. (Two of them after the time that I had said I was leaving the con. But it doesn't matter that much, and I wouldn't want to miss this panel...)

(You've just tagged why I don't normally go to the poly panels anymore - they're great for the curious and people just starting out, but I swear it's the same exact panel every year...)

Oh, sure -- lots of them are. But there's usually enough variation in the panelists to make the actual content rather different each time. For instance, it'll be fascinating to see how the "Intro to LARP" panel plays out this time: I think it may be the first time that the TS crowd has outnumbered the LC one. (Sometimes I've been the only TS guy on the panel, but this time we wound up with four members of the Intercon concom on it.)

And to be fair, the exact panel topics tend to shift from year to year -- "Intro to LARP" (by whatever name) is one of the few that really does seem to happen every year. But it does seem like, for instance, I wind up on a big analytical panel about comics with alexx_kay pretty frequently, and a more focused panel with Jonathan Woodward. (This time it's about steampunk; last time, IIRC, it was about Crossgen.)

Oooh -- are the dancing ladies going to be performing? That would keep me there. (It was a lot of fun last time y'all did it. And the Hamster Dance remains the funniest thing *ever* performed for the half-time.)

The Masquerade is potentially up in the air for me, since they're talking about holding the Masonic Lodge meeting at the same time. If so, I'll have to make a decision...

Do tell, which panels are you on? (Odds are, at least some of them are among the ones I added to my list of "things I want to attend", as that includes practically every panel in some sections...)
