Bad tool -- bad!

Razzafrazzin' KVM switch. Took me ten minutes to figure out why my monitor wasn't working before remembering that the KVM (undocumented) only turns on if the machine in port 1 is on. That machine is Uruk (my home Linux server), which got knocked out by last week's power outage, and I hadn't gotten around to restarting it yet. It is *not* obvious that I have to turn on machine B in order to see machine A...

Me, I was happy that Uruk was powered down. It meant I didn't worry quite as much when I needed to wiggle past it to repair the curtain rods.

Strikes me as a design failure in the KVM. Or a very unusual 'feature' that I haven't seen in other KVMs.

It's an annoyingly crappy KVM. I discovered after I bought it that it has assorted problems with the ThinkPad, which continue to be an ongoing nuisance for me. One of these days I'll get fed up with it and replace it with something better...

What a bizarre misfeature. I wonder what chain of logic lead to that implementation.
