Not really SCA period, but I figured folks might be amused by this article on the apparent origins of chocolate. (It appears to be publically-visible; forgive me if I'm incorrect.) Basically, some scientists have found evidence that drinking chocolate was discovered as a by-product of brewing beer. I'd say that their argument is far from airtight, but it's an interesting example of how chains of origin can sometimes be pretty unintuitive...
