Given that Season 5 dropped in May 2020, a Pandemic break in the middle of Season 2 is quite implausible.
I don't recall exactly why Season 2 got split into two parts, but the series was released at a very quick pace. 52 episodes in 18 months. And it sticks the landing in the way a lot of shows of its genre don't quite manage.
Its showrunner is also responsible for Netflix's new Nimona.
