This has been bugging me for some time. Wonder, openness, and romantic idealism seem hard to come by nowadays. My previous take on it is that the world really *does* work the way it does in the Shakespearean (or Greek, for that matter) tradition -- that uneasiness at the highest levels of government shake their way down to the masses, the weather, etc...
