Of course, the downside of that (which I saw in several SF-related clubs at Brandeis which I remained active in after graduation) is that these individuals graduate, and interest dwindles the further the current student body gets from those inspired types.

So it's not just a matter of cultivating a leader on campus, but an ongoing process for the next leader and one after that and so on...
