We were complaining about this eighteen years ago and ten and five and... I'm not sure if people have gotten more conservative or rather that the culture has changed so people feel more empowered now to express their discomfort without worrying about sounding like an uptight idiot.
There has certainly been a culture change since eighteen years ago. Think about it: you're essentially talking about sexual harrassment (albeit at a low level), which showed up on the national radar with the Clarence Thomas hearings, in...<dig, dig>...1991. It's much easier to complain about sexual harrassment than it used to be. Someone who's entering college this fall entered preschool at the time of the Thomas hearings. They never had any "I don't want to complain" to unlearn.
