If you're available today or tomorrow, we're going to be packing stuff at my house in Burlington. Folks should arrive any time after 1pm (I may be running errands -- like buying more boxes -- before then), and we'll probably go until 5ish. Please come on by if you're available -- thanks!

In response to the questions: yes, there's still a good ways to go yet, and I expect to be working on packing through at least next Saturday -- company and assistance would be welcome, during afternoons this week and next weekend. (And if anybody strong is available next Wednesday morning, that's when I actually need a bit of Goonage: Paulo and I will be loading several pieces of furniture onto the truck, which he is then taking to the auction house to sell.)

But today was phenomenally productive -- I think we managed to pack on the order of half the stuff in a four-hour whirlwind of activity. My thanks to the many folks who came and helped out: it has done much to bring down my blood pressure...

I suspect that the answer is "no", but I find myself quite wanting one.

The thing is, 30 years of being fond of art auctions have left with, let's get real, way too much art. All of it is reasonably nice, creative and sometimes a bit silly, suiting my tastes -- everything from the wrapped-wire-and-tiger-eye tree scupture to the wall quilt that, if you look at it carefully, is a game of Tetris.

But Kate isn't into clutter, and even before moving in with her I was reflecting that I had many pieces that I haven't had anything to do with for ten or more years. My art is going to have to be focused on the highest-priority pieces (in practice, mainly SCA scrolls), so I have an awful lot of good stuff gathering dust. The "traditional" pieces that I inherited from my grandparents have well-established outlets, but my own acquisitions would just baffle most dealers.

So -- does anybody ever organize an auction / yard sale / swap meet for fannish art? These are all one-of-a-kind pieces that an artist spent real time on (I don't give a damn about the prints and posters), and I'd like to find a way to get them to good homes...

And while I'm thinking about it -- I have about two linear yards of vinyl. Some of it is rare or unusual, but most is ordinary consumer-grade stuff that's been handled in ordinary consumer-grade ways. Anybody have any easy suggestions better than landfill? My ideal would be a dealer who would take the whole thing off my hands for a pittance (or even for free) and then triage it, but I don't know if anybody does that any more, or if they're all super-selective...
