I just happened to be looking in the ScoutSomerville. Among the news is a couple of upcoming restaurant openings. The spot where Johnny D's used to be? It's becoming a poke joint. The spot that used to be Diva? A sushi restaurant.

For those not counting, that will bring us from zero to five raw-fish restaurants in Davis Square, in the span of just a few years. And seriously: I love sushi, but that's getting excessive. It reminds me painfully of a few years back, when a bunch of froyo places opened in rapid succession, competed hard, and all went out of business.

I don't actually expect things to get quite that dire this time around (sushi being a necessity of life, some will survive), but seriously -- I wish folks had a little more imagination.
