Well, I doubt it will happen soon -- it's only one of a number of possible projects, and I'm currently thoroughly employed, so for the moment it's just a musing.
I already think this way; I know Boingboing aggregates from, say, Gizmodo, which pulls from Engadget, so as you do I only skim Engadget if I've read the other two.
That's reasonable, and I have one small variant of that: the News To Know feed does link aggregation from scads of different blogs (especially the ZDNet) set. But it's far from comprehensive (it's just the topics that interest the editors), so I can't use it as a primary filter. And all the other blogs are essentially peers: referencing each other all over the place, but not aggregating each other in any meaningful way...
