"I've never liked the term 'computer science.' The main reason I don't like it is that there's no such thing. Computer science is a grab bag of tenuously related areas thrown together by an accident of history, like Yugoslavia.

Good essay, about how much art there is in programming, and how there's more science in the study of programming than there is in programming itself. Probably worth reading while you're thinking in this direction.

There are a bunch of good essays on that site. "Design for Makers" was a good one to read just before visiting the Baltimore Museum of Art...
