Yeah -- as I had expected, the "sploosh" was fairly gradual, with the water taking about two minutes to drain out of the pitcher. So I even managed to confine most of it to the counter.

I do however, now know that it takes precisely four dish towels, completely filled to soaking, to sop up a quart and a half of water...
