The wikipedia entry for Tainted Love tells me the name of the original artist is Gloria Jones. YouTube can provide you with her version. It's very good but very different. If C. wasn't an avid Coverville listener I wouldn't have known about the original either. Every once and awhile Coverville does an Originalville episode where originals and their more famous covers are played and this was of course on one such episode.
