A helpful to reminder to myself: sometimes it can be done right.

This weekend was a tad nuts -- pretty much everything got scheduled at the same time, with the result that there were no less than seven different occasions we either wanted to or had to attend. In the end, the Mandatory Fun mostly shoved out Voluntary Fun that we would have liked to do (like [livejournal.com profile] herooftheage's 21st century party or going to Shakespeare with [livejournal.com profile] ladysprite). But at least the Saturday case worked well.

Note for people who schedule company parties: beaches are good. [livejournal.com profile] msmemory's company decided to hold their summer party at Hampton Beach State Park in NH, and it was one of the best company parties I've been to. The weather was perfect: hot and sunny, but with a strong sea breeze that kept things from getting unbearable. The outing managed to be kid-friendly without being kid-centric: blowing up a lot of beach balls and handing them to the kids pretty much kept them occupied for the whole time. Nobody made any long-winded speeches, so once we were done with lunch, we could actually go for a long walk on the beach.

So points to the company. Getting to wander through the surf and look at random starfish is way better than the usual rubber chicken and small talk...
