Honestly, that's not a good approach from my POV: I'd probably have no real influence over things *and* I'd have to leave my current company in the lurch.
Also, keep in mind the difference between Wave and the open source project -- while Google may be encouraging the latter, it's not *running* it, and I don't think they're paying anybody to work on it. And I find it unlikely that they'd pull me in as a consultant to work on the real Wave project: they've got 20k employees, after all, and have little need for consultants in-house. So I don't actually find the scenario very likely...
