So [livejournal.com profile] editrx is trying to start a meme, in response to the imminent deluge of polls and other such nonsense that are about to hit all of the "battleground" states. MA is totally not such a battleground, but the meme seems worthwhile (and besides, I appreciate seeing a meme that really *is* a meme). In her words:
I want it to be a Big Meme this time. And you, you can help do it. We can start a social experiment. Let's see how far we can get this to go!

Tell the pollsters, when they ask, "If the election was held tomorrow, would you vote for Bush or Kerry?" -- your answer should be "I'd rather vote for a rabid weasel than for Bush."

Do it. Spread the meme. I want to hear it come out of the mouth of a TV newscaster on Fox News or CNN. Or on NPR. Or on Saturday Night Live.
Share the love...

So....

What party is this weasel running for? I'm just curious mind, but he isn't a conservative rabid weasel right? I mean he won't be all "reverse Roe V Wade" and other nonsense right? Or the other end with power to the people and all that bolshevists nonsense. As long as he's not either of those I think I would vote for your weasel as long as I can find him on the ballot.

I tried to add it as an interest, but no dice. Too many characters or something, I guess.

However, I've had http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=anybody+but+bush+again for a while now...

You mean he isn't one?

As you probably know, I as much as anyone am in favor of True Memes retaking the cognitive space frequently clogged with "What X are you?" polls. Although this may not compare with original examples such as "the existence of god", it is certainly a good meme, and I like it. There's really only the one major problem: Anybody But Bush is almost the same message in mimetic form and doing quite well. Weasels are funny, but intentionally bifurcating the promotional effort seems unwise.

Could we fit Bush and rabid weasels into a different thoughtspace?

We could revert to Yellow-Dog Democrats -- "I'd sooner vote for a yaller dog than a Republican."

I think it depends on your definition of "weasel." Personally, I think comparing him to an animal, while funny, isn't really fair -- even sloths and dung beetles have virtues. (I know, a cliche - "Calling So-and-so an [animal] is an insult to [animals!].

He's a dangerous ideologue. Perhaps the serpent in the Garden of Eden?

Oh, by the way, I passed it along to my favorite online comic artist. So it may show up in his strip... ;-) Thought that might be as good a media reference...
