Hmm. Had a dream last night involving drinks -- I think there was some sort of arts competition being run by Luke, and I was checking out the Weak Honey Drink I'd made, flavored with Onion and Mint.

Now, I'm pretty certain that as honey drink that doesn't work. But the actual flavor in the dream was Sekanjabin, and in the dream it didn't taste half-bad. Given the acid nature of Sekanjabin, I'm actually not certain it's insane. I may have to make a *very* small batch, just to see whether it is, in fact, repulsive. (It certainly seems improbable, but so far every recipe that's ever come to me in a dream has actually been pretty good...)

I really like Sekanjabin. The astringency of the vinegar is an important component, in small quantities, on a hot day, to me. I don't know that onion would replace that, but then, the alcohol and onion might. The onion will give you more sugars to ferment, too. I'd be curious how the experiment works out.

I like Sekanjabin too - haven't made it in years - lost my recipe. Anyway - funny story - at least I think so. 11 years ago I was in a LARP where I was (horribly miscast as) Odin. I had a lovely leather covered bottle with my sekanjabin syrup in it that I took to simulate my personal drink. One of the other players didn't know what it was and poured themselved a glass and took a big drink. They were not amused - but it did make my day.
