So [livejournal.com profile] msmemory are finally getting around to watching through the Firefly DVDs. I'm impressed -- it's even better the second time around. Indeed, the pilot episode, Serenity, may be the best first episode of a science fiction series I've seen. Good story in and of itself, while managing to introduce all of the main characters without excessively obvious explication and throwing at least one of the primary arcs into play immediately.

I do hope they manage to do it justice in the movie. It's a damned shame that this one didn't get picked up...

I LOVED that show. I want the DVD's very much. Before my computer died I had the mp3 of the theme saved and would play it from time to time. Now I have no sound so I don't bother. Sigh - I miss it.

I'm with you. Much as I loved Buffy and Angel, I think there are ways in which Firefly was even better. I'm still angry with Fox for the way in which they killed the series, beginning with their order to change the sequence of the episodes. Not showing the pilot till after six other episodes really messes with continuity!

I think they have started shooting Serenity by now, and I'm hoping hard that it will be as rock-solid good as Firefly was. Any plot elements from the series that can be resolved or expanded on will be greatfully appreciated.

I don't watch all that much television, and most of what I do watch is history/science/discovery/etc channel. Firefly was the first science fiction series to get my attention since B5 (and IMHO may have been better), and the first fiction series of any sort to get my attention since I finally started watching West Wing about two seasons in. (I've developed a love-hate relationship with Joan of Arcadia lately — I think the premise is stupid, but I'm drawn by the characters and situations anyway.

At any rate, thanks for reminding me that Firefly was out on DVD. I refuse to place pre-orders on Amazon, so I often fail to buy something on DVD when it's first released, however much I may be looking forward to it.
