Ways to spend *lots* of money

Oh, dear heavens. I just got around to checking out CD Baby, having been reminded about it by mikekn.

Wow. Big site, with scads of independent albums. They make it dangerously easy to wander around, browse, find stuff that's like what you want (including a somewhat offbeat collection of musical "flavors" and a strong "sounds like" feature), listen to selected tracks off of albums (full two-minute excerpts, rather than the puny 30 seconds I get with iTunes), and then buy them. I wound up buying four albums by people I've never heard of before (found through random wanderings), plus an Ookla the Mok disc.

I have a nasty feeling that these people are going to wound my wallet rather deeply...

Ooh - which Ookla disk? If it's Less Than Art, I may need to borrow it from you. I've been holding off on buying it because I haven't actually heard a lot of the songs....

Uh (quick check of my receipt), it's "oh okay LA". I listened quickly to a couple of tracks, and they seemed good enough to be worth trying the album...

Less Than Art is one of my favorites, but seems to be sold out right now (can't find it on-line and they didn't have any at Balticon).

You'd probably enjoy Sabbatum, by the Estonian band Rondellus. They play Black Sabbath classics.... on medieval instruments... and sing it in Latin.

I think we may have to play some of that during dinner at my wedding next week... Wolfie's family will think that we're playing church music. Heh.

I actually listened to a track or two of that at CD Baby. It's interesting, and I'm thinking about it, but didn't quite qualify for an impulse buy...

Last time I was at CDBaby I picked up almost a dozen albums, including this one. You're welcome to borrow it for a few spins some time. It is very amusing and well done.
