Just got a phone call claiming to be from the IRS (from phone number 202-506-9962). Very ominous-sounding recording, saying that I owed back taxes, but they wouldn't take legal action against me if I called them back at that number.

Of course, I checked the phone number, and as expected, it's a scam. Clever one, though -- the IRS is the big boogeyman that most people are afraid of, and I bet a lot of people aren't sure whether they've actually paid their taxes correctly. They've apparently raked in over a million dollars in the current round of what looks to be a recurrent fraud.

I'm halfway tempted to call and just waste their time, but I have better things to do right now. Anyone who wants to mess with some criminals, though, that number seems to be the place to go...
