I suspect that many people think of The Economist as a bit stuffy; those of us who read it regularly know that, while sometimes true, the magazine's dry wit is one of its best features. And sometimes it just takes you by surprise. I suspect that their obituary for Joan Rivers is the one she would have most approved of...

They don't do stuff like that frequently, but just often enough to keep readers alert. Far as I can tell, the policy is to keep it serious *unless* you've got a nicely clever twist to toss in. The lead editorials can occasionally be brutally funny...
