Science Fiction

You know how sometimes, you look at some aspect of modern life and go, "This was science fiction when I was a kid"?

Well, right now -- with everybody living in their own little pods and all of my social events suddenly moving to cyberspace because of a world-side plague? Yeah.

Not all science fiction is happy-making.

(Although on the bright side, thank heavens for the modern Internet. Not many years ago, this would have been far more unpleasantly isolating.)

The temptation to reread Willis's Doomesday Book is strong in me.

Not in me -- I just finished it recently, and found it unpleasantly bleak. (Although I'm now in the middle of "To Say Nothing of the Dog", which is a fun little bit of fluff.)

So what live/video apps are people happiest with? Run into any?

Well, I just ran a conference using Zoom, and that worked decently well. And I use Google Meet and Hangouts on a daily basis (I've been a remote employee for a long time, so this isn't actually anything new for me), and they work fine for small groups.
