Amusing. It appears that Special Edition Using Java, a shovelware tome edited by [livejournal.com profile] new_man many years ago with chapters by myself, [livejournal.com profile] antoniseb and others, has gotten pirated onto the Web. At least, I assume it's pirated -- given that the transcription is flaky at best, it's on a Chinese website and the link back to QUE publishing is broken, it certainly looks suspicious.

I don't actually mind -- at this point, the book is so obsolete that no one in their right mind would buy it any more. But it's always startling to see one's words show up on the Web, years after you've forgotten about them. (I wrote Chapter 29, the VRML section. An example of the flakiness is that about half the chapter seems to be missing...)

God that's bizarre. I'm not sure whether to be flattered or annoyed. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but what about poorly executed pirating?
