Entering into the offer process on a house is remarkably like going down the far side of a roller coaster. You've been building it up for a while, all anticipation of fear, knuckles white on the bar. And now, when the negotiations all complete, it becomes an extended OhMyGodThisIsMovingReallyFastWasThisAGoodIdeaAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!! Very much the same mix of excitement and terror...

What a great metaphor. Thank you! That fits exactly how I feel about it!!!!

Now, submitting a job application is kind of like that crawl up the other side of the slope!

Interesting! It was very different for us the second time.

What I said to my sister was "Once you've lost your fiscal virginity, the second time is no problem."

"And now, when the negotiations all complete,"

Does this mean you got the house?

Our offer has been accepted. Of course, we still need to see a satisfactory inspection report and obtain financing.

Super!

Is there a publically-accessible MLS listing you could point us voyers to? (Later in the process is ok, too. We're just watching, and you're going through it, after all.)

Very pretty! Have you got a really good home inspector lined up? Are you on town sewer or do you have a septic system?

Town water and sewer. Gas by pipe (no more bottles! no more rusty oil tank!).

We are looking for inspector recommendations - we need to sign one up over the weekend or Monday at worst.

Ooo! Town water and sewer and gas (for heat/hot water, too, I presume?) That's great.

I though the home inspector I used was pretty good, but that was over a decade ago, so I don't know if they're still hot stuff. But for what it's worth, I used Neal Levy, of Bedrock Building Inspection Services, 145 Cabot Street Beverly, MA 01915.

There's always "barn red" to spice up an exterior. Or low-maintenance climbing vines, etc. It's the inside that's really a lot of fun for most folks.

For low-maintenance fun outside plantings, I recommend high-bush blueberries. :)

Which offer - initial or what you expected to be paying?

The amount we expected to pay. More than our initial offer, less than the asking price.

I understand! We backed off, after offer, on one place before this one, for that sort of reason.

Hah! Try writing a check for a car for your kid that is the total amount of the purchase price. I don't think she'd ever seen a check that size.

Money is so funny. I once cut a check for $145,000 and some change, when I was processing loans for the bank in Framingham, and my hands shook at the amount of money.

Interesting, Cynthia. Finding a house and getting an offer in on my First very own house and trying to get it accepted and signing everything and taking pictures to send to everyone!..... was much like that. But once they accepted the offer and we got started on the paperwork, it was the bottom of the ride's run-out.

But that first house (this house) that is My Very Own House and for which I get no help for payments, etc., is like the first time.

Wow, the place, she looks great! And just like the rollercoaster, afterwards you'll remember those stomach butterflies with a certain fondness... although I'm not sure of too many people who would say 'let's go on the ride again!' too quickly. Let us know when you come to the neighborhood and what we can do to help, as you'll be a mere 4 miles away...
