Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] anastasiav for this pointer to a seriously obscure theory about the significance of the numbers on Lost. It's weird enough to sound just about right for this show. (The post has very slight spoilers for the first episode of this season.)

And just to up the coincidences to the appropriate level: she found this on the blog of Eric D, a coworker of mine who left the company just a few weeks ago. I didn't even realize he was a Lost fan...

Sounds good, except that I can't find any reference to the book "Genetic Mirror Theory and other Natuarlly Occuring Phenomenon," by Marsille Roussau except in relation to Lost discussion boards. That seems a bit unlikely for a book supposedly written in 1988. My guess is that this is either something that a fan put together or that the show has intentionally released in order to put out some red herrings (which may contain the seeds of clues).

Remember, the "hidden page" of text that talks about Jack's "twin" is something that the shows creators intentionally put on their site, meaning that they knew people would find it.
