My long-stated arts goal in the SCA is to become at least Adequate in every activity. Not necessarily *good*, mind -- that would be unreasonable for those of us who don't have the apparent divine touch of, say the De La Pointes -- but at least not laughably bad.

I seem to have gotten to that point for thrown weapons. Today was the Baronial Archery and Thrown Weapons Championship. I was in a lazy mood, so we got there fairly late, but the tournament hadn't started yet and was looking like it might be small, so I said what the hell and signed up. (In fact, it proved well-attended by the time it started, with a respectable nine entrants.)

I didn't come close to winning (Udalrich lapped the field, as I figured he probably would), but held my own nicely. Indeed, while I wasn't great at any single event, I did decently in all of them. I got four points at distance spear, two at in-a-row axe, three at knife and two at string-cutting axe (I think I may have been the only person to score in the latter event).

That was the main focus of my afternoon -- I spent all my time until the competition started getting my arm motion back, and figuring out how the hell one throws the bloody spears. Once that was over, we all scurried about getting things torn down before the rain hit; we failed at that, but it was a warm day, and one can only get so wet, so we finished takedown in the pleasant summer storm.

Overall, a pleasant afternoon out, and it's gratifying to realize that I failed to suck. Time to get my own axes and knives, so I can practice a bit more consistency...
