A new chapter begins...

This afternoon's entertainment was spending nearly my entire net worth for the privilege of paying large amounts of money to a bank for the rest of my life. But beautiful Coeur Croisé, aka Crossert Manor, is now ours. We've already moved in the first carfull of boxes (which looks gratifyingly lost in it), and begun the negotiations of precisely what goes where. After all the legal pain, now we get the fun part.

Exact date of the housewarming is still under discussion (msmemory has already run one poll, and will probably run another soon), but expect it in January or February. One of the main purposes of this place is to feel able to entertain and hold meetings again, and we're quite looking forward to it.

We have that "privilege" at the moment. We have a contract with a listing agent, who has encouraged us to empty the old house as quickly as possible; the movers come two weeks from tomorrow (and meanwhile, we will be filling my station wagon at least daily....).

What were the details for moving help again? I don't have my holiday weekend pinned down yet but I'm not sure it won't include some "free" time.

Truth to tell, we're not entirely sure. The furniture is being moved by professionals on the 6th; the boxes we're slapping out the door as quickly as we can.

I suspect the time we're most likely to want a little help is Sunday afternoon. Saturday we're coming back from NJ, with a big rug in a panel van. On Sunday we're planning on taking the van down to IKEA to buy bookcases. Early to mid-afternoon, we could probably use a couple of people to help us get those out of there and into the house.

But in general, the bulk of the task is simply packing, and that's mostly on us. We're trying to get a carload moved every day, and that's starting to make a visible difference...

That reminds me, I need to actually go out and buy a bookcase at IKEA too. There's a cubic one divided into square cubbies which is approximately my height in both width and height, for $100. It should nicely occupy one wall and allow me to consolidate two walls' worth of junk.

I'm pretty sucky with large heavy objects, but I'm a decent packer and toter.
