So there I am, reading my email as [livejournal.com profile] msmemory flips around the channels behind me. I hear the phrase "pork bellies" waft out of the TV as she flips past, and just automatically inquire, "Trading Places"? Worse, I was right.

This explains much about my terrible memory. All the space that should be available for remembering important things is instead being taken up by 80's Eddie Murphy movies. This does not fill me with joy. Time for a brain transplant...

I thought the same thing as soon as I read pork bellies. Maybe it's just a good movie?

I always thought of it as a cliche

If a movie/TV character is trying to make money from the stock market, they're investing in "Pork Bellies". I think it sounds humourous to Hollywood writers. There's a Barbara Streisand movie where her boyfriend is losing money in the stockmarket and he keeps saying that if the pork belly futures rise up all their debts can be covered.
