Okay, not being impressed by Mass High Tech

It seems that someone pointed Mass High Tech, one of the local high-tech newsmagazines, at my journal entry about the end of Zingdom. (Anyone care to own up to it?) Which is okay -- a little publicity is never a bad thing -- but I have to wonder what the heck they thought they were reading. The article:

• Calls me by my SCA name, not my mundane one (okay, a reasonable confusion, but in that case I wonder how they got to me -- did the unnamed source not tell them who they were looking at?);


• Thinks I was the System Administrator (I was one of the System *Architects* -- the admin job was quite capably handled by Steve Dukas, and I have no damned idea *where* they got the idea that I was ever an admin);


• Claims that my posting said that the company was down to a handful of people at the end (which it was, but I never actually said that anywhere);


• Mixed up the Relay and Spark projects (a plausible misreading of Chris' post, but indicates that they weren't reading carefully).

I appreciate that they have a lot of news to cover, so they have to read quickly, but I have to say, I hope this isn't representative of their usual accuracy level...

You actually did say that it was down to a handful of people at the end; you just didn't make a big deal out of it or mention it in the entry your link goes to. In the "Signs and Portents" entry, you mentioned that it was down to you and a couple of other people. You just didn't mention it obviously or more than once. (Ah, photographic word memory...)

Huh -- hadn't even occurred to me that they had read the previous entry as well; it was long enough ago that I'd largely forgotten about that. Good point -- that's probably where they got it from...

Also, your user info lists you SCA name as your name, so that makes sense. The part that doesn't makes sense is where it also says that you were a system architect - guess they didn't scroll past the fold. My thought is that they Googled for Convoq and Zingdom and didn't delve too deeply.

If your blog is searchable and they were doing a news article on it...they might just have found it by chance.

The only explanation I can see is that the journalist and/or the editor didn't know what "architect" means, and changed it on purpose. That right there is enough to tell me never to bother with their magazine.
