In general, being the last one left in the office isn't the best way to spend an evening. Not only do I lose the social interaction (which isn't as good in a cube farm as in a pit, but still isn't too bad), but I can't go ask questions efficiently.

However, it does have one advantage. Normally, being in the damned cubes means that I have to keep relatively quiet -- there are just too many people for any given form of music to be acceptable to everyone in range. But with everyone else gone, I can unplug the headphones, plug in the speakers and turn them up to 11. God, I'd forgotten how much I prefer programming with road music blaring at me...

(Resolution: if I ever found my own company, one requirement for hires is that they can cope with a music-rich environment. Looking Glass was a lot more fun in that respect...)

Agreed

When I did tech support for iCi (in a pit) we always had music and were pretty tolerant of styles. One of our managers loved county-western and we even listened to that. Honestly, loud country is better than no music. It made work better and social.
