Just a bit of followup, since I brought the subject up in the first place: I am really a tad mystified about what's going on with Facebook.

It's like this: when I first open Firefox, and go into Facebook, it's all fine. No obvious CPU problems, just normal running. But after a fairly long time (maybe a day or two), it starts to chew up CPU whenever I'm on a Facebook page. The CPU falls to near-zero as soon as I navigate away from Facebook, so it can't simply be a background thread that's running amok. But as soon as I return to Facebook, the problem returns.

Really quite odd. The problem is clearly browser-session related, so I have to assume it has something to do with session-level cookies. But it's one of the stranger misbehaviours I've seen. The only communication obviously going on on the page is a slow-poll, presumably for the chat connection, but there's no particular reason why that should cause CPU issues...
