Okay -- I've fixed the major bugs that we found yesterday, and released a quick patch release. See CommYou proper for the full list of tweaks, but the upshot is that IM now seems to be working. You'll find that
laurion,
learnedax,
metahacker and I have already gotten into a couple of pretty substantial conversations there. So far, so good: while there's lots to be tweaked, this seems to be a major step towards the system working as desired.
I'll be spending some time refining the IM interface, but my focus for the next several weeks will be LJ integration. Sometime after Pennsic, y'all should be able to log in and start using it without going through Facebook...

Date: 2008-07-24 02:31 am (UTC)Frankly, as things have evolved, the arguments for focusing on FB first have weakened: they are getting less and less friendly to independent developers, and some of their policies are a major functional problem for CommYou. (For example, it's explicitly illegal to cache the social network for more than 24 hours, which is probably going to become a real hassle for my users.) And their inability to keep the integration environment stable is turning them into a PITA for me.
So getting LJ integrated in is looking more and more appealing: it looks much easier to work with, both technically and legally...
