So this afternoon was spent over at Dan and Viv's apartment, having tagged along with [livejournal.com profile] jikharra to a party there. And there, we spent the afternoon playing 1000 Blank White Cards.

Verdict: this game is cooler than cool. I need to play it a few more times to be sure, but I think it goes onto my ten favorites list. It is a truly great party game: while the suggested size is 3-6 players, it works perfectly well with a mob (we had 13-14 players), and winning is the very least element in it. (Indeed, by the end of the second game, a number of us had tossed in our cards and started on the Epilogue before realizing that we hadn't even bothered to try to figure out a "winner". Which is okay, because it probably would have been impossible to do so anyway.)

The game is silly and fun, and rewards imagination above everything else. Indeed, as far as I can tell, you "win" this game mainly by designing cards that everyone decides were entertaining enough to use them again. The more you let yourself roam around in the more or less infinite possibility space, the better the game is.

And now I am left with a fair number of ideas for cards that I didn't get to play today, so we're just going to have to do this again. You've all been warned.

(Favorites of the cards I *did* create today -- "Broken Waffle Cone": all cards involving cones are only worth half value; and "Directions to Worcester": +300 points, but you have to mispronounce one word in each sentence until the end of your next turn.)

1000 Blank White Cards was sort of created by my friend [livejournal.com profile] fennel and a couple of his friends. I love the game. :)
