Jezabelle appeared a couple of minutes ago, apparently none the worse from the experience save for being ravenously hungry. My thanks to everyone who suggested food and light, which got her to come out fairly quickly. And my apologies for spamming everyone's flist with tearing my hair out.

(Man -- I don't panic easily these days, but that sent me for quite a roller-coaster. Too many nightmares over the years about the cats getting out and lost...)

I'm so relieved for you! I had no useful suggestions, so I was keeping my mouth shut, but I'm really glad you found her. Or she found you. Or the food.

Anyway, I'm glad. :)

I'm relieved for you.
All pet owners hold those fears.

One thing I've learned over my years of being owned by many cats (and many years before that of being tolerated by [profile] auntie_elspeth's innumerable cats) is this: cats are resilient. And resourceful. Cats are survivors. We've had cats do the damnedest things, and when all is said and done they stick their noses in the air and proclaim "I meant to do that, for reasons your puny human intellect can not begin to comprehend". We had one, Face, who for several years would disappear every spring and suddenly show up at the food dish one autumn morning, like nothing had happened.

Cats are strong. Have faith.

I am so glad that you found her so quickly--I realize they were probably two of the longest hours of your life--and that she was safe.

Now you can be giving her some TLC instead of putting together 'Lost Pet' posters.

On a side note--are your cats microchipped? I didn't have a choice--mine were before they came home from the shelter. You may want to consider that if they aren't--according to the literature the company gives, less than 10% of cats are returned without a microchip--closer to 40 or 50% with it.

Just a thought. I honestly don't know if I would have chosen them if they didn't come preinstalled, so to speak. But it does give a little bit of peace of mind should Lily or Rose manage to escape. This will be especially true once we get to Lowell--the current apartment has two full air locks. The new place doesn't really have any. And Lily has gotten quite good about finding her way into air lock #1...

Too many nightmares over the years about the cats getting out and lost...

I know that feeling. I'm glad this story ended well!

Glad she found her way to you safely (and doubly glad I didn't read lj until after you found her, lost kitties worry me as much as the next pet owner). I second [livejournal.com profile] outlander's comment about microchipping, it's a relatively cheap and easy piece of mind thing to do, even if I hadn't been able to do it for free I would've chipped our two, I know cats that find their way to a vet or shelter will get scanned and from there they can get back home.

Good gravy, you've had a day!

Sorry I wasn't able to be here to offer moral support. So glad the kitty is out and safe again.

And don't worry about panicking -- at least on my section of the flist. I completely understand. Being a big kitty/doggie person me'self. So go hug the kitty, feed the kitty treats, and reassure yourself that kitty is again safe and sound.

Best,
Resa

Phew! Glad she's out safe. Now you just have to figure how to cork the hole she used.

Poor kitty, getting stuck in the ceiling like that. And for shame, making you all panicky about her.

But mostly poor kitty.

Glad to hear there was a satisfactorily happy ending! You're not the only one who has had those nightmares, and twice our Ozy has gotten out. Both times he has reappeared the next morning wanting to be fed. The second time we didn't even know he'd gotten out until he reappeared in the basement (he'd found a casement window that wasn't locked shut) the next morning and was crying at feeding time. If that cat didn't have such a singleminded stomach we'd be a lot worse off.
