Thanks to Aaron for the pointer to this evocative little image:

The artist has a bunch of other political images, but this is probably the best...

Y'know, you're going to make me have to turn auto-loading of pictures off. Seeing that every time I hit my friends page for the next 24 hours ... *shudders*

It's the frat boy (or fighter jock) waking up to discover that the pick-up from the bar the night before might not be as desirable without the alcohol (or whatever) in his system.

Adjust the ages and the job descriptions. Politically insightful, but not one of those images you really wanted to think about. Even as a metaphor.

I think I lack the necessary political knowledge to make the connection.

It's McCain and Palin. It really is a metaphor, but the idea is the same.

The proper term is "Coyote Ugly". As in, the other person is asleep on your arm, and you seriously consider gnawing it off so you can slink away in shame rather than risk waking them.

Or as the Willie Nelson song has it, "I went to be at 2 with a 10, but I woke up at 10 with a 2..."

Just a pictorial version of the old saying, really.

Way back when Bonnie Raitt was a local folkie act, she used to sing a song called "The Wakin' Up Sober Early in the Mornin' Who the Hell is This One Blues".
