Our house wakes up noisily

jducoeurHere's a minor Happy Thing: our power decided to go out when it was warm, and light, and we had nothing terribly critical we needed to do. It simply forced a bit of quiet on us for a couple of hours on Christmas Day, listening to her laptop play Christmas music while we read.
But my -- when the power returns, it does so with a bang. The desktop computer roars to life; the printer clicks and whirs its way through a self-check; the smoke and CO alarms screech; a variety of clocks and phones all go BEEP in quick succession. Startled the heck out of the cats...
