Broadly speaking, I can't say this has been a good week -- between an election result I'd been dreading and fresh prospects of war, things on the large scale broadly suck. So I have to take my small victories where I can.

Babylon 5 Season 1 DVD is finally out, after years of waiting. Finally, my DVD player gets to achieve its main purpose...

is it worth buyign the 1st season even though i didn't liek it, for the commentary tracks, or are they not that good?

The commentaries are interesting, but no dramatic revelations -- most of it is stuff that Joe said online years ago. Indeed, one of the things I find fascinating is how little was new: it really drives home the way that he was kibitzing the series on Usenet while it was airing. There's a bit of other extra stuff (one very old making-of special, and one new one, along with some random interactive features), but again, nothing remarkable.

It was worth it for me, but I'm a hardcore B5 fan, and have been waiting for the DVDs for ages as I said. I'm probably even going to buy the Season 5 DVDs, despite that season's rather spotty quality. YMMV..
