You know that it's a serious snowstorm in New England when the newscasters start using the "w" word: "wallopped". I'm not precisely sure why, but this seems to have become the official verb meaning, "to get hit with a Great Deal of Snow".

wallopped -- a portmanteau of the english "wall", an elided form of "opt" (as in "opt out"), and "ped", from the Latin meaning "foot".

Loosely translated, it means "no one is going to shovel their walk so yer gonna have to stick your foot in a wall of snow".

Drifts here are ~4 feet against the one tree I can see. Yay wind.

Well, I, for one, am slightly disappointed that we probably only have seem to have somewhere around 4 inches or so on the ground here in Chelmsford. I keep seeing all these bands of snow on the radar in our area only to look out and see... nothing coming down.

Snow, sigh...

It used to be "buries" or "blasts" or "flattens." I guess some editor got a new Thesaurus.

That's "slightly disappointed" and not "crazy". Enough more snow fell overnight that I've had more than enough! Good luck digging out.
