... yes, that really is Gwyneth Paltrow singing with the Muppets and some dude in a big chicken suit. The song's not terrible, but surely this sets some sort of new bar for jumping the shark...

ETA: And now I think we've crossed the line into "lap dance". (No, not with the Muppets.) Not that I object to being pandered to, but the jeweled underwear is a tad over the top...

Is is true that Lady Gaga is wearing some kind of prosthetic butt?

By tomorrow, there will be pictures. I promise you. televisionwithoutpity.com tends to have a pretty good recap of the best and worst travesties.

At least it's only the underwear that's jeweled. If you've never heard of "vajazzling"... well, don't Google it.

The image of a jeweled Muppet lap dance will stay with me for a while, although that's not your fault.

All I could think was "Elton wants his costume back when you're done."
I was so distracted by the prosthetic shoulder horns, I almost missed the prosthetic butt and boobs...

I think it's the best excerpt ever from episodes of The Muppet Show that don't actually exist.

(As mentioned, Cee Lo's outfit was 50% a copy of the one Elton John wore on The Muppet Show.)

At least she can actually sing. You can't honestly say that for every performer at the Grammys, can you? And she's promoting "Country Strong", in which she plays a C&W singer (and reportedly fairly well). As for Cee Lo Green, he was part of a duo (with the producer/songwriter "Danger Mouse") called Gnarls Barkley. He's a soul singer masquerading as a funk act: what he wore is what George Clinton wears to buy groceries, probably %^).

Gaga is two acts in one. She's primarily a performance artist, but she actually does (IMO) rather catchy dance music. And for all the hype, she's unfailingly sincere and gracious when she wins awards. So I'll cut her slack.

One of the highlights, for me, was Justin Bieber's performance -- yes, really -- when Jaden Smith popped out of a trapdoor. The cut to his beaming mom and dad ("That's my baby"!) in the audience was priceless.

And the other highlight. I've felt that the Stones have pretty much sucked since, well, since Brian Jones drowned. But damn. Tonight's master class in rock and roll has been brought to you by Sir Michael Jagger. That's the Mick I remember.

It's been several years, but I still don't think I'll ever be used to the phrase "Sir Michael Jagger".
