I was home and belly-laughed. As a public service, I wish to warn readers to put down any pets that may be sharing your lap, especially if they are sitting on your belly inside your down vest, and extra especially if they have sharp teeth and a full bladder. I can't remember the last time somebody bit my abdomen, and I think the jostling was a mistake. And I was still laughing.

You've got to wonder what was going through the squirrel's head. I think it was probably something like this:

• I nearly got hit by that thing! (the car)
• Look! Something tall! It must be a tree! I can hide in a tree!
• (leaps up onto tree/cyclist)
• Oh! There's a hole in the tree! I can hide in the hole!
• There's something in here! Fight! Fight! Fight!
