It's an LGVX 4400B, from Verizon. One of Consumer Reports two recommended phones for Verizon customers -- and I'm committed to Verizon because of a stretch of I-89 where theirs is just about the only available signal. It met all of my criteria -- approximate price, folds to be small and cover the keypad, NO camera, available customizability (ring tones, wallpaper). I hope the audio reception is at least as good as my old phone.
I notice it doesn't say you have to turn on the microwave to get this effect. Maybe it would be safest if she never brings the phone into the kitchen at all.

I'm starting to look at getting a new phone.
