Action in search of a verb

Okay, I'm coming up blank on this greyly unimaginative afternoon, so here's a challenge: provide an appropriate verb for the activity of trying to figure out who an LJ poster is from examining their journal and user info.

(Having just done this for ricevermicelli, which wasn't nearly as hard as usual, it occurs to me that I spend a good deal of time in this activity...)
